Review: Ten One Ate
The exterior of Ten One Ate definitely stands out as the refurbished Brickmakers Arms Building on Mount Alexander Road. Once again, a lot of great eateries to choose from, with Demazzi Stone Grill and Dribbles Burgers nearby, but we were in serious need of some good brunchin'. You can check out the menu here and if you're anything like me, you take your choice of beverage as seriously as your meal, so I was delighted to see the great range of 'crazy shakes', lattes and smoothies available!
After a sufficient amount of playing Instagram detective, I had to go with The Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes and my better half went for The Breakfast Burger.
The Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes: Triple stack ricotta blueberry pancakes, blueberry jelly, blueberry coulee, blueberry ice-cream ($16.50). I've definitely had a bit of a sweet tooth recently and these pancakes sounded too good to pass up. Such a visually stunning dish, the vibrant red and blue just jumps off the plate at you! Together, all the elements of the dish complemented each other really well. The sweetness of the ice cream and jelly was balanced out by the more tart nature of the coulis. The jelly made me as excited as a kid in a candy shop, loved getting that beautiful little pop of blueberry. Personally, I found the pancakes to be a little too dense and cake-like for me, I'm more for the light and fluffy. I also think the blueberry in the pancake mixture itself could have been emphasised that touch more because when I did get a nice big chunk of blueberry it was just delicious, a refreshing break from the batter!
Breakfast Burger: Bacon, egg, cheese, relish, cos lettuce, hollandaise, all encased within a brioche bun ($15.00). My man is big on his cheese and he was super delighted when this baby came out. It's also hard to ignore that beautiful, golden #yolkporn oozing out. The elements all combined perfectly for one damn tasty burger. Seriously need more burgers for breakfast in my life!
Would I return? There's still some menu items my greedy self wouldn't mind tucking into, including the Apple and Pear Crumble Porridge and the Toronto Waffles.
